About Jessica Farestvedt
I am a recent graduate of the College of Music and Dramatic Arts at Louisiana State University. My degree is in Music Education with an emphasis in instrumental music. I play the violin, the cello, the piano, and a little guitar. I am currently learning how to play the banjo. I guess you could say, "I was born to be a fiddler in an old town string band, but I pick a banjo now." I am always learning new ways to teach music and I enjoy learning how to play different instruments. I play with my church worship band and try to get involved in my community. I believe it is very important to help others and work as a team to make the community better.
I love to travel and to learn about different cultures. I believe culture and music go hand in hand and what better place to make world-minded citizens than in the music classroom? I have been to London, England, Paris, France, many places in Norway, all over Italy, to some countries around the Mediterranean Sea, Jamaica, Mexico, Cayman Islands, and Panama. I have also traveled around the United States and my favorite music styles are Zydeco and Bluegrass. Folk music is the heart of culture and helps define how people express themselves as an individual within the group. Music is also a universal language that is understood all across the world.
Outside of music, I enjoy riding horses and competing in horse shows. I also like to cook and bake, and if I had more time, I would sew and quilt. Being artsy and crafty is in my blood so many times you will find me making my own visuals for class.
